Do you always feel like you have no energy? Do you have a hard time concentrating or keeping your focus on what you are doing? Do you often feel depressed or negative about everything? If you answered yes to any or all of the above questions, don't worry. You are not alone. Many people feel like this and the good news is that we can learn to identify the causes and put a plan of action into place to change it.
When we feel like this we often think it is our diet or lack of exercise. But maybe you have changed your diet or you have started exercising but you still feel the same. One of the things we all often overlook is our sleep.
The latest research has proved that sleep is a really important thing that we must do. Getting a good night's sleep helps our immune systems. It helps our body repair itself. It helps the brain to function efficiently and effectively when we are awake. It helps us create and maintain a state of peace. Also the lack of sleep can have a detrimental effect by increasing the risk of things like high blood pressure or diabetes.
The important thing is to try and establish a good sleep pattern and routine. Experts advise that you go to bed at the same time every night and that you sleep for at least 6-8 hours. It is always best to start to wind down 30-mins to an hour before your bedtime so that you are in a relaxed state when you try to sleep. If you have trouble getting to sleep you can try a bedtime routine. Maybe you can have a hot shower or bath, a warm drink. Avoid eating large amounts before you sleep and open a window so you have fresh air during the night.
The main thing to remember is that you need to create a routine that suits you personally. What other people do may not be good for you. Take the time to research and experiment with different things until you find what sleep practices work for you. This could take weeks or months, but be patient. You will find what works for you in the end. When you realise how much better you feel once you are getting regular good sleep you will see that it was well worth it.
